Load Flow Analysis Studies

The load flow study determines how the electrical system will perform during normal and emergency operating conditions utilizing proven mathematical models. The purpose of a load flow study is to:

  • Calculate bus voltage levels and compare them to equipment ratings (Voltage)
  • Calculate branch current flows and compare them to equipment ratings (Current)
  • Optimize circuit usage
  • Minimize kW and kVar losses
  • Identify transformer tap settings

NEC Articles 210.19 and 215.2 require voltage drop limits for Branch Circuits and Feeders respectively.
The NRC requires load flow studies to verify system performance.
